In Age of Empires II I keep getting pwned by the AI when I play as the Byzantines versus 2 celt tribes…?

why is this happening?? What I usually do is on highlands map I make 25 vilagers in the ancient age, Find the two swamp bridges that correspond to the 2 AI usually, wall those off with enough space to fit a castle, build a couple of galleys to shoot down any early attackers, build a castle in the castle age with several mangonels in each “castle box” arena with all gates locked.

Now this holds off a lot of attacks even when the battering rams come but eventually, I experience a MAJOR attack where the 2 AI brings like 12 trebuchets at a time and even if I have like 40 cataphracts, I can’t stop them all in time without my cataphracts all getting killed or losing my castles in which time I usually type in “wimpywimpywimpy” and commit HariKeri and lose.

Can you tell me what allows human players to take on like 5 AI which is what I hear all the time? I don’t understand what I am doing wrong and even after like gutting an entire AI with trebyuchets I still lose!!

First the people you were talking about probably used cheats, also try to take the initiative and attack, also the Celts are not very good so try somebody else. Trebuchets die easy with infantry, if none of my suggestions are good for you, you can probably find online strategies. If one strategy isn’t working just try something else
