In 2007, it is estimated that the global refugee population is approximately ten million people. Of these ten million refugees, the majority are living in the developing world. When large numbers of refugees enter a developing country, the host country is affected in many ways. There are economic, political, and social impacts in the host country due to influxes of large refugee populations. As most developing countries are not as prepared and lack some of the resources a developed country may already have, the impacts are much more profound. This thesis studies the impacts that the refugees have on their host country. It also examines the social impacts on the refugees themselves and describes how many of the refugees are suffering in protracted refugee situations. This thesis will analyze the problems associated with housing refugees in developing countries and will discuss solutions to alleviate the problem.
