How to disable mouse buttons?
I reciently purchased a new mouse, which has 5 mouse buttons. Buttons 1 and 2 are in their normal positions, and the scroll wheel/button 3 are all fine with me, but the problem I have is there are two additional buttons that are located right where I grip the mouse on the side. This is really frustruating because the buttons are mapped to function as forward and reverse buttons in my web browser, so as I’m reading a website I’ll constantly end up moving backward and forward when I don’t want to! I tried to use the included software to set the buttons to have no function, but for some reason it doesn’t work. Is there any other way to disable these stupd buttons?
It’s a dynex. I’m pretty sure I’ve applied the settings correctly.
Tried the mouse settings in control pannel… it has nothing for the extra buttons… thanks though
Well, you didn’t include the manufacturer of the mouse, so we are unable to go to the website and search for an answer for your issue. There should be a way to remove the function mapped to any of the buttons using the mouse software. If it isn’t working you either have not properly applied the setting or the mouse is malfunctioning.
I have a similar issue with my new Logitech mouse, only my issue is my buttons will not stay mapped to the functions I want. They will at one point be properly activated and on other tmes not work at all as configured. I went to the Logitech website and researched my issue, did not find what I needed so I e-mailed technical support. Technical support had me remove and then reinstall in a Clean Install environment, which is completed by using msconfig to Selective Startup, going to the Services tab, placing a check mark in the box in front of “Hide all MIcrosoft Items”, then disalbe all the rest which are all third party items, plus the security suite which can interfere in a proper installation. I then rebooted, and installed the new software instance, and then rebooted, then went back into msconfig and reset the Startup to Normal, and rebooted again. The mouse buttons worked for a day, quit again, worked again, and so on and so forth, so now I am returning the mouse and seeing if a new one will work correctly.
You could try clean installing your mouse software and see if the software will then respond properly and keep your settings intact. It is frustrating when hardware does not work as it should.
I reccomend you go to the manufacturers website to research the issue. There may be a knowledge base article which addresses this issue. If not, contact technical support and explain your issue. If that does not fix it take it back and get a different one and see if it works as it should, if not, return it for a refund and buy a different brand. I am almost at getting a refund and buying a different brand.

The Arnold Schwarzenegger ‘positive Thinking’ Road Map to Gauranteed Success
Arnold Schwarzenegger started life in a tiny village of Graz in Austria . It was his father who first encouraged him to participate in some kind of sport.
However it wasn’t until the age of 15 that he first began lifting weights. But even at that early age he was decisive and positive declaring:
“I want to be the best built man in the world. Then I want to go to America and be in movies. I want to be an actor.”
And with this sort of drive and intention he became unstoppable, for after just five years of training he was declared Mr Universe – The Greatest Bodybuilder on the planet. He subsequently went on to raise the bar further constantly pushing himself to 13 more major titles. It was clear that his laser beam focus and concentration played a great part in his success and that his inner power was the key to much of his success as to his outer lifting abilities.
“I knew I was going to be a bodybuilder. It wasn’t simply that either. I would be the best bodybuilder in the world, the greatest, the best-built man.”
Through meticulous gathering of knowledge of his subject and immense passion and devotion success was always going to be his, but only because he made it for himself, no-one did it for him….he wasn’t lucky! Far from it, he created his own reality.
“I wanted more, I demanded more of myself.”
It is clear now that Arnold had tremendous belief in himself and refused to give in or waver from his goals. He knew what he wanted then went and got it, no matter what. He regularly used creative visualization produce astonishing results.
In his bodybuilding life his mind was:
“utterly dominated by Reg Park. His image was my ideal. It was fixed indelibly in my mind.”
Reg Park was another top bodybuilder whom he wished to defeat.
“The more I focused in on this image and worked and grew, the more I saw it was real and possible for me to be like him.”
Arnold had clearly discovered the power of mind over the body. He also realized realized emotional distractions and worry weakened him. These negative influences took strength away from his workouts which he hated. It came to his notice that the people surrounding him also made a difference. Negative people tended to try to stifle him not believing in his goals and focused lifestyle. He found negative people were not at ease around him until they had either pulled him down or he had won them around to his way of positive thinking.
“I remember certain people trying to put negative thoughts into my mind, trying to persuade me to slow down. But I had found the thing to which I wanted to devote my total energies and there was no stopping me.”
He was determined not to let anyone distract him no matter what. He was persistent in his efforts and held his dreams in his mind always. Arnold clearly understood the principle that: success breeds success, declaring:
“Positive Thinking can be contagious. Being surrounded by winners helps you develop into a winner.”
Arnold’s tremendous progress as a teenager continued. He continuously challenged himself through his self imposed goals and bust through many road blocks inwardly and outwardly but in short…his dream was coming true!
“I wanted that body and I didn’t care what I had to go through to get it.”
At just 18 Arnie was called up for his military national service joining the tank corp. However this put him in a difficult position as it meant he wouldn’t be allowed to compete in the junior ‘Mr Europe’ being held in Germany that year. However his determination to compete and succeed forced him to risk all and go AWOL. Naturally he took the top prize and a big trophy but also picked up a week in solitary confinement for his troubles. It seemed there was no sacrifice to great for Arnold to achieve his goals.
Next he went on to win Mr Universe in London and following this his dreams led him to the US where he immediately came across much tougher competition and initially came up short. However it didn’t take him long to assess his weaknesses and devise ways to cut them out, in short he refocused.
“I was always honest about my weak points, this helped me grow. I think it’s the key to success in everything: be honest; know where you are weak: admit it.”
So his reality check allowed him to stay in control of his goals and to adjust his plans accordingly. Doing this stopped him from becoming to inward looking ad wandering off track.
“When I see that I have certain backward attitudes, I reason them out and work to make my outlook more realistic.”
Arnold also learned a lot through observing what other successful people do and what unsuccessful people do. This down to earth approach has often given him the edge on his rivals.
“Most of the people I observed couldn’t make astonishing advances because they never had faith in themselves. They had a hazy picture of what they wanted to look like someday, but they doubted they could realize it. Ultimately they didn’t put out the kind of effort I did because they didn’t feel they had a chance to make it. And of course, starting with that premise, they didn’t.”
Over the years Arnold had developed a winning mindset and mentality. He soon realized that this could be a applied to any area of life that he wished, I short he had developed a simple mind set for success.
In bodybuilding, there are big goals like winning Mr Olympia; there are medium-term goals such as attaining your ideal weight of 245 lbs with just 5% body fat; and there are lots of short term goals like: getting to the gym, eating enough protein, doing an extra rep for each exercise and so on.
Basically what Arnold did was to take this successful approach and apply it in exactly the same way as he did in bodybuilding to other areas of his life.
“In two or three years, I had actually been able to change my body entirely. That told me something. If I had been able to change my body that much, I could also, through the same discipline and determination, change anything else I wanted. I could change my habits, my whole outlook on life.”
Arnold was actually a millionaire way before he started his career in Hollywood and in learning about business, Arnold applied the bodybuilding-template to his studies. In exactly the same way he built up his acting career slowly but surely always with the end focus in mind.
Looking back at the achievements he has made during his life it is no surprise his philosophy on life is:

Some Impressive New Excel 2007 Features
As a PC user for over twenty years now, I started with a monochrome screen, DOS, and Lotus 123 as the major spreadsheet program of the day. Some of you go that far back too. As good as Lotus 123 was, I was very impressed the first time I used Excel in 1989. I remember the main advantage at that time was its’ WYSIWYG interface and more flexible charting. Later on in version 5, I discovered multiple worksheets (now taken for granted), over 16,000 rows and some nice analysis tools such as three-level sorting, auto-filter and the very capable pivot table.
This latest version of Excel is still very impressive, building on many of these same features. One of the first things you notice is that Excel 2007 now offers 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns and 2GB memory management (vs. 65,536 rows, 256 columns and 1GB). Because of this, cell addresses can have three letters representing the column (up to XFD instead of IV). The old worksheet had 16,777,216 cells. An Excel 2007 worksheet has 17,179,869,184 cells (1,024 times as many). Along with this greater capacity is a new file format (*.xlsx) using XML, which allows for reduced file size. On one workbook I use, the size was reduced from 463K (saved as xls) to 267K (saved as xlsx), over a 40% reduction by switching to the new format.
Formatting is much improved in Excel 2007. Excel always had styles, which is a feature more commonly used in Word or PowerPoint. It allows for a conglomeration of format settings to be saved and re-used under a unique name. For instance, in this Word document, the main paragraphs use the ‘normal’ style. The heading at the top uses the ‘Heading 1′ style which has a larger font and is bold. In Excel, I rarely used styles, due to the extra effort to find and use the styles in prior versions, and the relatively limited amount of formatting usually done in a worksheet. In Excel 2007, a style gallery in the ribbon under the home tab conveniently displays several styles, allowing for quick formatting choices for background color, font, font color, number format, and borders. Simply highlight the cells you want to change and pick your style. One last detail to mention is that there are now themes in Microsoft Office 2007, which are like styles, but more global in their result, changing an entire file’s, fonts, colors, line and fill effects. Once a theme is defined in any Microsoft Office 2007 application, it is available in the others too.
Conditional formatting has been a part of Excel’s feature set for years. It is commonly used for highlighting cells that meet certain criteria, such as changing a cell color to red if the entry was less than a specific amount. This is still part of Excel 2007, but it has now been enhanced to format an entire range of cells at once, changing the cell background by color and shade, in order to differentiate the values visually for easier analysis. Much like a weather map showing severe weather gradations, you can set choose a conditional format color scale to shade the smaller numbers in blue and the larger ones deep orange. Not only can you do this differentiation with color scales, but also shading of a portion of the cell with the data bars feature, the larger the portion shaded, the larger the number relative to the others in the selection, much like applying a bar chart directly in the cell. Finally, for a little fun, there are a large assortment of icons that can be used to quickly show the relative size of entries in a range, including stop lights, flags, arrows and even cell-phone-like reception strength bars.
