Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis (June 3, 1808–December 6, 1889) was an American statesman and advocate for slavery and, until he became President of the Confederate States of America, for States’ Rights. He is most famous for serving as the only President of the Confederate States of America, leading the rebelling southern slave states (the Confederate States) to defeat during the American Civil War, 1861-65. Davis was never touched by corruption, but he lacked the astute political skills of his counterpart Abraham Lincoln, and was unable to devise a successful military strategy in the face of the much larger and more industrially developed Union. His insistence on independence even in the face of crushing defeat prolonged the war. He was held for two years in federal prison after his capture in 1865, then released, with no charges being brought.
Before the Civil War, Davis served in the Mississippi Legislature, the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. He fought in the Mexican-American War as a colonel of a volunteer regiment. Later he became Secretary of War in the cabinet of U.S. President Franklin Pierce.

Presidents of the United States of America 2 $5.00 It’s come to my attention that the Presidents of the United States of America really seem to piss-off some people. Seems the Seattle trio are just not depressing and dour enough for those who have become accustomed to the miserable angst polluting MTV and radio stations nationwide. Latin American States and Political Refugees $179.36 The Nicaraguan revolution of 1978 and the subsequent violence engulfing the Central American states, causes mass migration of Latin American persons seeking territorial asylum. Latin American States and Political Refugees focuses on the questions surrounding this new problem of refugees. Yundt uses regime analysis, a method whereby principles, norms, and social institutions are studied to identify the general obligations due refugees. The central concern of this study is whether the regional rules, norms, procedures and social institutions established by the Latin American states in governing political refugees, are compatible with or dissimilar to those of the established United Nations refugees regime. This scholarly written and well researched book will appeal to students and scholars of international organizations, international refugee and human rights law, as well as all the social and political sciences. Yundt begins his study with an explanation of the meaning of regime; What is a regime analysis? This book examines the history and current status of colonization and immigration legislation in Central and South America. Further chapters discuss the role of international organizations, including the League of Nations and the organization of American states, in providing international legal protection to refugees. The study also explores the global refugee regime; its history and how it relates to the interAmerican system. Author: Yundt, Keith W. Old South $74.88 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Geographically, Old South is a subregion of the American South, differentiated from the Deep South as being the Southern States represented in the original thirteen American colonies, as well as a way of describing the former lifestyle in the Southern United States. Culturally, the term can be used to describe the antebellum period. In Colonial times, it was largely dominated by slave owning plantations. The Southern Colonies were Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The Old South is usually defined in opposition to the Deep South including Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi, and it is also further differentiated from the inland border states such as Kentucky and West Virginia and the peripheral southern states of Florida and Texas. Softball at the 2010 South American Games $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Softball at the 2010 South American Games in Medellin was held from March 21 to March 25. All games were played at Estadio Atanasio Girardot. Softball is a team game commonly played in the United States and other countries. It is a direct descendant of baseball although some key differences are that softballs are larger than baseballs and the pitches are thrown underhand rather than overhand. Softball is played on a smaller diamond than in baseball; a softball fields average distances from home plate to the center, left and right field fences are 220, 200 and 200 feet respectively. South Carolina in the American Civil War $74.88 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. South Carolina had long before the American Civil War been a region that heavily supported individual states rights and the institution of slavery. Political leaders such as John C. Calhoun and Preston Brooks had inflamed regional (and national) passions, and for years before the eventual start of the Civil War in 1861, voices cried for secession. South Carolina, the first state to secede from the Union, saw the first shots of the Civil War when Citadel cadets fired on a civilian merchant ship Star of the West bringing supplies to the beleaguered Federal garrison at Fort Sumter January 9, 1861. The April 1861 Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter ignited what became a fouryear struggle that divided the nation. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F.
