Seven Kid Friendly Activities For Your Next Maine Family Vacation

Seven Kid Friendly Activities For Your Next Maine Family Vacation

Going on a family vacation is always an adventure, Visit here http://mainewhitewater-rafting.blogspot.com

no matter where you go and even more so when you head to Maine’s most favored outdoor recreation region: Jackman and Moose River. There is just something special about the mountains of Maine that attracts people of all ages. However, kids are kids, and it is best to plan some special kid friendly activities ahead of time to ensure everyone has a good time. Here is a list of seven kid friendly activities for this year’s vacation in Maine:

1) Whitewater rafting

If you have older kids who are looking for some real excitement, you might want to consider whitewater rafting, a popular sport on Maine rivers. Daily trips are scheduled for the Kennebec River, the Dead River, and the Penobscot River with many class III to class V rapids. Minimum age is 8-15 depending on the river. Outfitters provide everything you need and can create a custom trip for your family or group.

2) Free fishing days this summer are on May 31st and June 1st

The best part of Spring are the free fishing days! The Maine Government designates 2 days every spring where no license is required to fish. So pack up your rods and head to one of the many lakes and rivers in the Jackman Maine Region and fish for free. This is the best time to introduce your kids to fishing. You can rent boats on Big Wood Lake or launch your own to hook some large lake trout or head to the streams and enjoy fly fishing for brook trout.

3) Hike to Moxie Falls

A very easy hike at only 0.6 miles, it is an enjoyable trail with large towering Pine tress and many sounds of animals and birds so symbolic of the Maine wilderness. But the best part is when you arrive at Moxie falls. One of the highest set of falls in New England: the main drop is over 80 feet, which plummets into a deep slate gorge. Why not a pack a lunch and enjoy some outdoor time near the falls?

4) Canoe trip

While The 34 mile Moose River Bow Trip is one of the most outstanding canoe trips in the country, the Sandy Stream Canoe trip is a great day trip for the family at only 4 miles. The Sandy Stream runs between Holeb road and Big Wood Lake and is only runable during high water early in the summer season. Get up early to enjoy this trip and enjoy some moose and deer sightings along the river. While the water may be fast moving, there are no rapids on this trip.

5) Ride an ATV to Quebec

When the snow melts, New Englanders put away their snowmobiles and pull out their ATVs. And, thanks to a joint effort last year between Jackman’s Border Riders Club and the Canadian Riders Club, you can ride into Canada from Jackman Maine. Where else can you go for a multi-country day ride? Stop by the Border Riders Club and pick up some maps. Contact the Jackman Moose River Region Chamber Of Commerce or visit  for details on papers needed to cross the border.

6) Enduro Car Race

The Enduro Car race, a true stock car race, sponsored by the Border Riders Club brings together more than 20 old jalopies for fun race around a dirt track. Fifty exciting laps that even the youngest race enthusiast will enjoy. Spectators will also enjoy Food and games.

7) Fall Foliage Tour on your Mountain Bike.

The miles of old logging roads and snowmobile trails offers something for all levels of mountain bikers all summer long. However, a great easy ride for the family is the Solon to Bingham Rail Trail along the Kennebec River with some of the best fall foliage viewing in all of New England. The trail is crushed stone and 14 miles round trip. The trails allow for incredible sites of autumn plus the opportunity to see wildlife like moose, deer, partridge, rabbits, fox, and many bird species. Best time to view natures artwork of brilliantly colored mountains is typically late September-mid October.Visit here http://mainewhitewater-rafting.blogspot.com
