Why would a divorced mother complain and be so critical of her son?

Mothers husband left after 25 years of marriage for another woman. Mother has 2 children a girl 8 and boy 11. She is very critical of the boy, she says his marks are not good enough, he is a bad boy, etc. He walks down the street to school with a neighbor girl and Mother calls her former husband to say she is worried about the son walking with a girl. She shows her son a picture of husbands girlfriend and asks if shes pretty. She tells son father is no good. On a map she finds a city in Mongolia that has a similar name to fathers family name and tells her son that is where your fathers family came from, when in fact he was from Europe and does not look Asian. Before husband left she never said a bad word about him. Later she said something snapped in her mind when husband left for other woman. What should her son think about mothers behaviour?

Mom has a definite hate for the husband and the son reminds her everyday that she was wronged and she is bitter. She needs help–she is capable of physical damage to the son.Her hate will grow to the point that she will ruin the boy to get back at the husband…. get her to a counselor ASAP
