Cattle Trail. Please Help! Thanks?

How did cattle trails work, especially the Western Trail, Chisholm Trail, and the Goodnight-Loving Trail? Did cowboys take cattle on these trails straight to the railroad terminal stops or did they take them to slaughterhouses?

hi there
from the stories and the books i have read, the cattle owners would have their men trail drive the animals to a town with a railroad terminal and a stock yard, if the yard was to small for the herd they would bed them out of town and the cattle buyers would go out and look the herd over, then they would get together with the seller and make their offer(highest offer winning out)but some times the buyer would go to the ranch , look the herd over there and guarantee a price, delivered to the stock yard.hope that answers some of your question
