Political Map Europe
Is Europe really a “continent” in the geological sense of the word?
Looking at the map recently, I was struck by this question, which has been in my mind ever since I remember but for which I’ve never seen or read a discussion. It seems that Europe is simply a region of the tectonic plate that contains Asia (India excluded, of course).
Does anyone know the geology of Europe? Is it in fact on its own tectonic plate, or is it a political construction set up centuries ago to advance some notion of separateness and supremacy?
OK, really looking for an explanation founded in geology. Not looking for simple yes/no affirmations, and it’s *not* the 6th-largest continent if it isn’t actually a continent, now is it?
