Winter escapes to sunny Orlando, FL

The New Year has arrived and much of the nation finds itself in the midst of yet another winter’s chill. Snow, ice and bone-chilling temperatures can quickly cause “cabin fever” to set in throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

With the holidays past and spring break still just a blip on the future horizon, now is a great time to visit Florida – the Sunshine State. And what better place to start your winter thaw than in the centerpiece of Central Florida otherwise known as Orlando – the city beautiful. There’s nothing else quite like a discount Orlando vacation package.

Home to world famous Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando and dozens of other popular attractions, Orlando is truly the theme park capital of the world and a renowned destination any time of year.

Whether you have been to Central Florida a number of times or are simply looking to go for the first time, Orlando is always full of new adventures and surprises. And 2010 is already teeming with big fun and even bigger adventures.

The most anticipated event in Orlando this year is the upcoming spring grand opening of the all new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park. http://www.universalorlandoresort.com/harrypotter/

Harry Potter fans from around the globe are already clamoring to visit a variety of iconic destinations from the wildly popular movies inspired by J.K. Rowling’s series of Potter books. Areas currently under construction and rising quickly include Hogwarts Castle as well as Hogsmeade Village. Amazingly detailed, these areas are sure to bring the wonder and magic of the Wizarding World to life for fans of all ages.

In regards to the new theme park addition, Tom Williams, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks and Resorts, stated that “all of the action and adventure of Harry Potter’s world will come to life here at Universal Orlando Resort. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be unlike any other experience on earth and we can’t wait to see the looks on our guests’ faces as they enter this rich environment.

Another recent addition to the fun at Universal is the new roller coaster extravaganza known as Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit! The most technologically advanced coaster adventure in the world, Rockit allows riders to rock out to their choice of adrenaline pumping music while reaching speeds of 65 mph and looping 17 stories high above the park. Each ride is recorded with on-board cameras and edited to create a personalized music video.

Aquatica by SeaWorld, Orlando’s newest water park also recently announced the creation of a new water ride for 2010. The Omaka Rocka or “rocking river,” set to open in March, pits riders in two-seater tubes and sends them shooting through a set of three funnels designed to replicate the half-pipe experience of extreme sports with near vertical thrills normally associated with skateboarders and snowboarders.

Of course, regardless of how many times you’ve visited Orlando’s famed theme parks like Disney World, you’ll always find new fun and adventure with the wide variety of shows, rides and attractions.
