Xia Shang Zhou Chronology Project $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Xia Shang Zhou Chronology Project was a multidiscipline project commissioned by the Peoples Republic of China in 1996 to determine with accuracy the location and time frame of the Xia Dynasty, the Shang Dynasty and the Zhou Dynasty. Some 200 experts took part in the project. The project results were released in November 2000. Conventionally, the year 841 BC marked the start of Gonghe regency, during the Zhou Dynasty, and the first year of consecutive annual dating of Chinese history. The Xia Shang Zhou Chronology Project set out to provide exact dates for prior to then. There have, however, been several controversies relating to the project. In the 12 years of his regime, the Shang vassal Zihai traveled to and lived in Youyi, Zihai was dissolute so the leader of Youyi, Mianchen, killed him. In the 16th year of his regime, Shang minister Wei led troops from Hebo, invaded Youyi and killed Mianchen. According to the Bamboo Annals, on the 21st year of his regime, Xie fought with the surrounding barbarians of Fei, Bai, Chi, Xuan, Feng, and Yang. Western Xia $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Western Xia Dynasty or the Tangut Empire, was known to the Tanguts and the Tibetans as Minyak. The state existed from 1038 to 1227 CE in what are now the northwestern Chinese provinces of Ningxia, Gansu, eastern Qinghai, northern Shaanxi, northeastern Xinjiang, southwest Inner Mongolia, and southernmost Outer Mongolia, measuring about eight hundred thousand square kilometers. The state suffered from devastating destruction by the Mongols who founded Yuan Dynasty (12711368), including most of its written records and architecture. Its founders and history therefore remained controversial until recent research conducted both in the West and within China. They occupied the area of important trade route between North China and Central Asia, the Hexi Corridor. The Western Xia made significant achievements in literature, art, music, and architecture, which was characterized as shining and sparkling. Very little is known about his life, and only a few of his works survive, but his generally considered one of Chinas greatest artists. He continued the tradition of Li Tang, further simplifying the earlier Song style to achieve a more immediate, striking effect. Together with Ma Yuan, he founded the socalled MaXia school, one of the most important of the period. Although Xia was popular during his lifetime, his reputation suffered after his death, together with that of all Southern Song academy painters. Nevertheless, a few artists, including the Japanese master Sessh, continued Xias tradition for hundreds of years, until the early 17th century. Qi of Xia $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Qi (Chinese: ) was the son of Yu the Great and the second sovereign of the Xia Dynasty. He ruled for approximately nine or ten years. According to legend, Yu married Nu Jiao and stayed at home for only three days before going back to stop a flood. While Yu was stopping the flood, Yus wife had a son. He named the boy Qi. After nine years, Yu had finished stopping the flood. When he finally went home, little Qi was very happy and rushed into his fathers arms. Yu died 45 years into his reign. According to the historian Sima Qian, Yu did not want his son to become king and intended to give the throne to Boyi, the son of Gao Yao. But due to Yus great influence, all the leaders of the Xia states came to admire Qi instead of Boyi, so Yu had no choice but to pass the throne to Qi. Qi then succeeded Yu. According to the Bamboo Annals, however, Boyi took the throne and became the king of China, but later Qi assassinated him and abducted the throne. After Qis rule, Tai Kang succeeded him as king.
