Map European Trading

What was Arabs role is the Tranalantic trade?
I seen maps and pictures of Arabs in the slave trade. I do know they started the east African trade more than 1000 years before this one. Were the used as translater or showing the Europeans how it should be done?
For two hundred years the Portuguese had a monopoly on the slave trade, from their colonial outposts on the west coast of Africa. They functioned as middlemen, buying the slaves from the interior, and selling them to the ship owners. They were eventually joined by European competitors who were able to establish their own slave exporting port operations on Africa’s west coast. The Arabs continued to be slave catchers, and helped supply the demand by selling to the exporting Europeans, though they were far from alone in this activity.

The New European Cinema: Redrawing the Map $142.55 New European Cinema offers a compelling response to the changing cultural shapes of Europe, charting political, aesthetic, and historical developments through innovative readings of some of the most popular and influential European films of the 1990s. Made around the time of the revolutions of 1989 but set in postWorld War II Europe, these films grapple with the reunification of Germany, the disintegration of the Balkans, and a growing sense of historical loss and disenchantment felt across the continent. They represent a period in which national borders became blurred and the events of the midtwentiethcentury began to be reinterpreted from a multinational European perspective.Featuring indepth case studies of films from Italy, Germany, eastern Europe, and Scandinavia, Rosalind Galt reassesses the role that nostalgia, melodrama, and spectacle play in staging history. She analyzes Giuseppe Tornatores Cinema Paradiso, Michael Radfords Il Postino, Gabriele Salvatoress Mediterraneo, Emir Kusturicas Underground, and Lars von Triers Zentropa, and contrasts them with films of the immediate postwar era, including the neorealist films of Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica, socialist realist cinema in Yugoslavia, Billy Wilders A Foreign Affair, and Carol Reeds The Third Man. Going beyond the conventional focus on national cinemas and heritage, Galts transnational approach provides an account of how postBerlin Wall European cinema inventively rethought the identities, ideologies, image, and popular memory of the continent. By connecting these films to political and philosophical debates on the future of Europe, as well as to contemporary critical and cultural theories, Galt redraws the map of European cinema. Author: Galt, Rosalind Series Title: Film and Culture (Hardcover) Binding Type: Hardcover Number of Pages: 296 Publication Date: 2006/03/14 Language: English Dimensions: 9.31 x 6.25 x 0.83 inches |

Trading Secrets $30.55 Winner of the Prix Goncourt in 1998, this book is the work of one of Frances most celebrated and interesting novelists writing at the height of her powers. It is fiction that leads readers through fascinating chambers of life where autobiography is constantly reimagined. A darkly comic novel about four women aging lessthangracefully, Trading Secrets takes us to an academic conference in Kansas where, in an encounter between Aurore, a French woman, and her American counterpart, Gloria, the differences between their two cultures become sharply apparent. The result is a bitingly funny portrait of painfully complex, psychologically damaged individuals, all of whom have been, in some sense, colonized. The novel also offers an incisive picture of a French posture toward things American, from race relations to feminism to academia. As Paule Constant herself has said: Cest un livre en miroir. The book is a mirror, both in how its characters reflect one another and in what it shows us of ourselves and our world. Author: Constant, Paule/ Wing, Betsy/ Miller, Margot Series Title: European Women Writers (Paperback) Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 165 Publication Date: 2001/09/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 5.27 x 0.40 inches |

Transport Under Emission Trading $213.49 This book analysis the impact of private road transport under emission trading using two different Computable General Equilibrium models. A static multiregion model with special emphasis on the European Union, addresses the welfare impact of road transport under the European Emission Trading System. Including termsoftrade effects, this model does not account for congestion which is the main externality of road transport. Furthermore, technological details of electricity generation which are an important factor in evaluating climate policies are not included. Therefore, the second model is a static Small Open Economy model of the German economy including congestion effects and detailed technological characteristics of electricity generation. The results of both models highlight the important role of already existing taxes on transport fuels for the evaluation of carbon mitigation measures in road transportation.
