Viterbi Decoding of Ternary Line Codes $134.33 The Viterbi Algorithm was originally developed in the 1960s to decode linear error correcting convolutional codes. Its advantages include ease of implementation and using soft decisions to obtain an additional and significant coding gain. Viterbi decoding has found widespread application from space and satellite communications, down to dial up telephone modems and elsewhere, provided that a finite state machine description can be set up. Ternary line codes are used in baseband digital communication systems, notably metallic cable systems. What does the finite state machine description of these widely used nonlinear line codes look like? Can Viterbi decoding be applied to ternary line codes? What gains can be expected with soft decision Viterbi decoding? What advantage can be obtained using more bits for finer soft decision quantization? How do these gains compare to the well known 2 dB gain obtained through 3 bit quantization with linear codes? It is shown that the results obtained differ from the standard 3 bit quantization and 2 dB gain scenario. This study may lead to further new applications of Viterbi decoding with soft decisions. List of Ancient Legal Codes $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles This is a list of ancient legal codes. Legal history or the history of law is the study of how law has evolved and why it changed. Legal history is closely connected to the development of civilizations and is set in the wider context of social history. Among certain jurists and historians of legal process it has been seen as the recording of the evolution of laws and the technical explanation of how these laws have evolved with the view of better understanding the origins of various legal concepts, some consider it a branch of intellectual history. Twentieth century historians have viewed legal history in a more contextualized manner more in line with the thinking of social historians. They have looked at legal institutions as complex systems of rules, players and symbols and have seen these elements interact with society to change, adapt, resist or promote certain aspects of civil society. Such legal historians have tended to analyze case histories from the parameters of social science inquiry, using statistical methods, analyzing class distinctions among litigants, petitioners and other players in various legal processes. Teacher Created Materials 10899 Looking at Maps $23.4 Maps show us where things are in the world with abstract pictures of what is in view. Many maps have grid coordinates that make it easier to locate where something is. A vertical grid line is known as longitude and a horizontal line is known as latitude. Symbols and keys are important parts of maps. A scale helps us know how far apart things are from each other in real life. Compasses also help us know the direction on a map. There are many different types of maps such as street maps tourist maps population maps and landuse maps. Author: Moira Anderson. Format: Paperback. Pages: 32. Publish Date: October 10 2008. Codes and Consequences: Choosing Linguistic Varieties $167.7 Carol MyersScotton has edited a collection of essays that covers the choice of one style of English over another in everything from Bible translations to surprise in poetry to supervisorworker interactions on the automobile assembly line. An important theme developed to varying degrees in these papers is the notion that speakers and writers, as rational actors, exploit the unmarkedmarked opposition regarding audience expectations so as to convey messages of intentionality charged with social or psychological import. Phase Line $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In mathematics, a phase line is a diagram which shows the behaviour of an autonomous ordinary differential equation. The term is also used in histogeographic maps and military maps to show some positional dependency or relation to the passage of time. A line, usually vertical, represents an interval of the domain of the derivative. The critical points (i.e., roots of the derivative) are indicated, and the intervals between the critical points have their signs indicated with arrows: an interval over which the derivative is positive has an arrow pointing in the positive direction along the line (up or right), and an interval over which the derivative is negative has an arrow pointing in the negative direction along the line (down or left). Patagonia Boy’s Puff Rider Jacket $159 For catching air in the halfpipe or committing to the fall line, the insulated Patagonia Boy’s Puff Rider Jacket has a motion-inspired design and a durable fabric with weatherproof reinforcements. Highly compressible and warm when wet, the lightweight 200-g Quallofil insulation moves easily with the motions of skiing and boarding. The tough shell is made from soft polyester ripstop treated with a Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish for storm protection. It has waterproof 2-layer polyester reinforcements at the cuffs, elbows, side panels and hem to withstand abrasion and to prevent wet-through. Inside, a slick polyester lining manages moisture and glides smoothly over layers. The fleece-lined collar and chin flap eliminate zipper rub; elastic cuffs, a mini-powder skirt and an integrated bottom hem drawcord provide a tight seal against outside elements. The insulated handwarmer pockets have reflective zipper pulls; there’s an internal drop-in pocket and a hidden, zippered chest pocket with interior cable routing. Articulated sleeves have a built-in “grow-fit” feature for an additional two inches of growing room. Snap loops at the waist attach to Patagonia’s Kids’ Snow Bum Pants, and a hand-me-down ID label inside keeps track of owners. With an adjustable hood. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program. |
