European Maps Scotland

European Maps Scotland
“Be England what she will, With all her faults she is my country still.”…British or English?

England is NOT the United Kingdom. England is one of the countries in the United Kingdom. England is not Great Britain. Great Britain is all the countries of the United Kingdom – Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. Even the European Union Map did not show England as an independent nation in its own right. England was described under “other European Union regions”. What a disgrace! We are not just regions – we are a country and our name is England. It appears that England is gradually being erased from maps and documents and pressure is being applied to erase it from the minds of the English people. We are very rarely referred to as English anymore but British. Politicians appear to be trying to make us ashamed to call ourselves English rather than British and many of them at the top of government seem to denigrate England and the English at any opportunity..i read an article saying there is no such thing as English? the english are british? wondered on ppls thoughts…

It is high time that the people who feel that they are English made a stand for themselves, since the Welsh and the Scots have done so by demanding their own parliament, gaining their own privileges whilst the English are being steam rolled into non entity. Why should the English pay prescription charges whilst the Welsh do not? Why should English students have to pay for their studies when the Scots do not? Why are there members of the Scottish parliament allowed to vote both in their parliament and in the English one as well whilst their English counterparts cannot walk into Edinburgh and cast votes about Scottish laws? Why is England allowing itself to be ruled by Scots?
Until the advent of the EEC the English had a very definite identity. Yes, England had been a melting pot of several civilisations, but it had developed its own character and way of life which where both endearing and original. Now the English are being erased by Big Brother America and other nations in the name of globalisation. They are fast losing customs and traditions and the qualities that made them very special. Sadly the enemy is within now, as too many people go with the flow and have stopped caring.. Added to which our politicians have failed to monitor adequately the inflow of immigrants who are not prepared to embrace the traditions and customs inherent to the English way of life. Snakes and bosoms come very much to mind.
The questions are “What can be done about it ?” and “Will those who care make a stand and be counted?”. Probably not because the “live and let live” gentlemanly precept of the true English puts them at a disadvantage.

Beer in Scotland

Beer in Scotland

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Beer has been produced in Scotland for approximately 5,000 years. The Celtic tradition of using bittering herbs remained in Scotland longer than the rest of Europe. The two main cities of Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh, are where, historically, the main breweries developed; and Edinburgh, in particular, became a noted centre for the export of beer around the world. By the end of the 20th century, small breweries had sprung up all over Scotland. Despite a widespread belief that beers in Scotland used fewer hops than in England, all the available evidence shows that the Scots imported hops from around the world and used them extensively. Brewing in Scotland goes back 5,000 years; archaeologist Merryn Dineley has suggested that ale could have been made from barley at Skara Brae and at other sites dated to the Neolithic. The ale would have been flavoured with meadowsweet in the manner of a Kvass or Gruit made by various North European tribes including the Celts and the Picts. Legend has it that the name came from sailors found asleep but quite unharmed on the rocks (where the lighthouse is now) after their boat was shipwrecked on a stormy night. The settlement is shown on earlier maps as Ardachadail, the village of the sleepy people. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Flora of Scotland

Flora of Scotland

$70.1

The flora of Scotland is an assemblage of native plant species including over 1,600 vascular plants, more than 1,500 lichens and nearly 1,000 bryophytes. The total number of vascular species is low by world standard but lichens and bryophytes are abundant and the latter form a population of global importance. Various populations of rare fern exist, although the impact of 19th century collectors threatened the existence of several species. The flora is generally typical of the north west European part of the Palearctic ecozone and prominent features of the Scottish flora include boreal Caledonian forest (much reduced from its natural extent), heather moorland and coastal machair. In addition to the native varieties of vascular plants there are numerous nonnative introductions, now believed to make up some 43 of the species in the country.
