A MetaAnalytical Review of Novaks Concept Mapping.

$115.71

The current systematic review furthers the field of Novaks concept mapping founded on Ausubel meaningful learning theory. Based upon 46 effects from 38 studies, the results indicate that Novaks concept maps are effective learning tools for enhancing and promoting achievement among students. Within the learning domains of Science, English/English as a Second Language, Education, and Electives, concept mapping improves achievement. However, within the learning domain of Math, concept mapping groups did not demonstrate improvement of achievement. Both computergenerated and noncomputer generated maps are effective means for creating maps, though noncomputergenerated maps were slightly more effective. Suggestions for future research by learning domain and by means of map generation are included. Author: Campbell, Laurie O. The study reflected in this book aims at addressing the issues related to the reliability and validity of adoption of concept maps to assess L2 reading comprehension. The concept map version utilized in this study was select and fillin (SAFI) to ensure objectivity and ease of scoring. In validation of the test, the endeavor was made to rigorously pretest the test through three separate pilot studies, to address validity from different angles, to investigate construct validity through think aloud procedure, and to further validate the test via a triplecomparison among three L2 reading test formats. The results substantiated that SAFI concept map can be a reliable and valid tool of L2 reading assessment which has the potential of assessing connected understanding and discourse comprehension. A significant practical implication of concept map assessment approach is that it offers the prospect of developing L2 reading tests that encourage testees utilization of higherorder abilities, while allowing for objective scoring. The comprehensive discussion and implications presented in the book should be especially useful for L2 test developers and instructors, as well as L2 learners. Cartographic maps have guided our explorations for centuries, allowing us to navigate the world. Science maps have the potential to guide our search for knowledge in the same way, allowing us to visualize scientific results. Science maps help us navigate, understand and communicate the dynamic and changing structure of science and technologyhelp us make sense of the avalanche of data generated by scientific research today. Atlas of Science, featuring more than 30 fullpage science maps, 50 data charts, a timeline of sciencemapping milestones and 500 color images, serves as a sumptuous visual index to the evolution of modern science and as an introduction to the science of sciencecharting the trajectory from scientific concept to published results. The Concept of Modularity in Cognitive Science

The Concept of Modularity in Cognitive Science

$181.62

This dissertation is about modularity of mind, and a network of related problems. Modularity is a familiar idea in the foundations of cognitive science, but less clear is just how modularity relates to tacit knowledge, nativism, and domainspecificity, as well as computationalism, neuroscience, connectionism, developmental psychology, and a dozen other progressive programs. This book attempts to clarify the current picture of cognitive architecture. Index to Maps in Earth Science Publications, 19631983.

$189.42

This cartobibliography lists more than 4,900 maps, covering some 320 geographic areas, that were published in selected earth science journals between 1981 and 1982 and in selected monographs between 1963 and 1983. A diversity of geological topics are covered in this index, spanning such subjects as coastal geomorphology, plate tectonics, mineralization zones, and location of fossil fauna. The Index is divided into three major sections. Part I lists maps geographically; the maps are organized alphabetically by title under their subject term. Part II is a listing of sources in which the maps are located. An author index constitutes Part III. Directions for use and a list of geographic subject terms that can be used to access the maps are also included. Hailed as one of the most valuable books on the relation of philosophy and science, Alfred North Whiteheads The Concept of Nature, first published in 1920, was an important contribution to the development of philosophic naturalism. Examining the fundamental problems of substance, space, and time, Whitehead assesses the impact of Einsteins theories as well as the thenrecent findings of modern physics on the concept of nature. For students and teachers of natural philosophy, this is essential reading. English mathematician and philosopher ALFRED NORTH WHITEHEAD (18611947) contributed significantly to 20thcentury logic and metaphysics. Refined Concept Map

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Refined concept map is a development on the traditional concept maps. In the refined concept maps we provide a constraint set of linking words along with the seed concepts and instruct the mapper to use the linking words from the given set only. This would enable the mapper to use the linking words unambiguously and thus would help to validate the hierarchy in the concept map. In a given domain of knowledge the concepts present are large in number (often thousands). By contrast, the linking words (relation types) that connect these concepts are few in number. Meaning resides in the form of relations, and helps to organize knowledge. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F.
